Advent Festival

Children’s Advent Festival is TODAY immediately following Children’s Church downstairs in Bailey Hall! Children of all ages are welcome to join the fun and fellowship as we make gingerbread houses and other fun crafts with a pizza lunch to follow!

Holiday Decorations

Vern Hackworth thanks all volunteers who assisted in decorating the sanctuary and chapel for the Advent-Christmas season this past Friday.

Christmas Bazaar

The Bazaar and Tea will take place on Saturday, December 7th from 1:30 – 4. Come and enjoy the start of the Christmas season, buy some unique gifts, take the cookie walk and taste delectable treats.

Wreath Decorating and Pizza Party

Sign Up Sheets

Two sign up sheets are posted and await your signatures. One is for the Christmas Party Fundraiser at Lou and Elizabeth (Shane) Pizzarello’s on Fri. evening, Dec. 13. The other is for the post-worship Christmas brunch on Sun., Dec. 22nd. These events foster good-will and help support the life of WPC in multiple ways.

Adult Study Class

Our 8:45am class has been canceled until after the holidays, but will be hosting a luncheon/study opportunity following worship on December 8th. Please join us as we watch a segment of “A Clear View of the Birth of Jesus: A Middle Eastern Understanding” by Kenneth Bailey followed by discussion. Rev. Dr. Bailey is a well- respected expert on the Middle East, having lived and studied there.  We will consider such questions as “Why didn’t Mary and Joseph go to Elizabeth’s home for the birth of Jesus?  She lived nearby!  Why was the town of Bethlehem so hard hearted that no private home would take them in if there was “no room at the room?”  Come and see the nativity through Middle Eastern eyes!

All Church Christmas Caroling

Christmas Caroling will take place on Sunday Dec. 15th at 4 PM. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall if you will be caroling with the Youth Group.

New Hymnals

Our new hymnals entitled “Glory to God” are being dedicated today. Special thanks go to everyone for your generosity which funded their entire purchase. Prior to the service, consult members of the worship committee in the back of the sanctuary to locate the hymnal which you dedicated to use in this inaugural worship.

PW Thank Offering

Presbyterian Women will dedicate the 2013 annual Thank Offering during this morning’s service. Please offer your bank/box or a check payable to Presbyterian Women. There are also blue envelopes in the pew racks that may be used for this purpose. All will be collected during the time for Dedication of Tithes and Offerings.

Adopt a Family

The Adopt a Family program begins this week.  Individuals to “Adopt” will be available after the service today in the parish hall.  Please be generous, remember the person you select will only receive the gifts you give.  The other churches that participate buy for other people. This year gifts will be collect from December 7th through the 16th at the Immaculate Conception gym, the building closest to us. Please give NEW, wrapped items labeled with the person’s name and the family number clearly on the outside of the package.

The Brentwood Presbyterian Church has requested 80 which we gladly give. Visit To The UN Peacemaking Office

WPC will be traveling to the United Nations, for an all day (10:30-3:30) seminar, “The rights of women in the developing world and what the church can do” tomorrow, November 11th. Meet at the church at 7:45 AM. For last minute sign ups, email Linni Deihl at Linniadtr@aol.com . Let us know if you will be taking a tour of the UN at 4 pm after our seminar. Anyone taking the tour must arrange their own transportation home.

 

New Member Inquiry Class

An inquiry class for those wishing to know more about church membership will be held today immediately following worship. Those who wish may join the church next Sunday, November 17th. Questions? See Andrea Lohneiss, Mary Beth Lundborg or Chuck Cary.

Harvest Dinner

Save this Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. for delicious Turkey, dressing and dessert! Bring a dish to pass. Sign up is on the Parish Hall bulletin board. This year’s guest speaker will be Peconic Bay Keeper Kevin McAllister. All are invited to an open house at the manse prior, beginning at 5pm.

WPC will be traveling on our bus to the United Nations, for an all day (10:30-3:30) seminar on Monday, November 11th. Grocery cards are for sale during coffee hour in the Parish Hall. Remember 5% of all sales is returned to WPC’s operating budget. Gift cards are ordered the last Sunday of the month and are distributed the first Sunday of the following month. Please see Tom Rogers for details.

International Peacemaker/World Communion Sunday

We welcome Rev. Butros Zaour and his wife, Waffa, from Damascus, Syria.  Boutros is the pastor of the Evangelical Church of Damascus. They will present to us at our World Communion Sunday luncheon following worship. Let’s make the most of this fabulous opportunity for learning and cultural exchange.

 Peacemaking Offering

This year 25% of the peacemaking offering will be retained in support of the trip to the United Nations Presbyterian Mission, with the balance donated to its budget. Your generous support is welcome!

 Habitat

CROP Walk

Our CROP walk this year will be on Sunday, October 20, following church and coffee hour. There will be two walks, a half mile each way and intended mostly for parents and their children, and a longer, scenic route of five and a half miles.  You can sponsor yourself and walk, or not walk and sponsor someone who would like to walk.  On both October 6 and October 13th there will be signups for those who wish to walk, and plenty of opportunity for those who won’t be walking to pick a walker and pledge a donation.  We recommend that checks be made out to Westhampton Presbyterian Church.

Fall Rummage Sale

The Presbyterian Women’s Rummage Sale is set for Friday, October 4th from 9 AM to 3 PM and Saturday, October 5th from 9 AM to 1 PM here at the church. Workers are needed to help distribute rummage this morning following worship, to set up and price during the week, as well as clean up on Saturday afternoon.

Scrap Metal Drive

Save your scrap metal. This year’s scrap metal drive is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th. We are accepting all types of metal, steel, copper, aluminum, old appliances, cars, etc. Clean out your garage and your basement and help balance the church budget. Bring your scrap metal to the church parking lot from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you have large items that have to be picked up, contact Tom Rogers or the church office.

Memorial Service

A funeral service for the late Jonathan Rich will take place Saturday, October 5th at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary with a light reception to follow at the family home in Quogue.

Resignations

The session has acted reluctantly to accept the resignations of Kyle Miller (as of August 31) and Jill D’Abramo (as of October 31) as youth ministry coordinators. While their successor(s) are being sought, a volunteer team of parents will help continue the program. Questions? See elder Kathy Tureski of session.

International Peacemaker

Ordination and Installation

This morning we ordain/install Hannah Wagner as youth deacon, Victoria Campbell as youth elder, and Alex Williams as youth trustee for the 2013-14 program year. Rejoice!

 Church School

Sunday school classes have begun. Parents, please help your children locate his or her class. Teachers are still needed – please see Ellen Campbell or Traci Duke if you are able to serve. Middle School Class Change:  6th Grade Sunday School students should join Mrs. Miller’s 4th-5th Grade class today;  7th & 8th Graders should join the high school class upstairs.

Adult Class

The Sunday morning adult study began today, at 8:45 AM in the Founders Room. Newcomers are always welcome.

 Bread for the World

Today our church will take part in the Bread for the World offering of letters campaign on behalf of hungry people in the world. A table is set up in the Parish Hall.

 Fall Rummage Sale

The Presbyterian Women’s Rummage Sale is set for Friday, October 4th from 9 AM to 3 PM and Saturday, October 5th from 9 AM to 1 PM here at the church. Workers are needed to help distribute rummage on September 29th following worship, to set up and price during the week, as well as clean up on Saturday afternoon.

Scrap Metal Drive

Save your scrap metal. This year’s scrap metal drive is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th. We are accepting all types of metal, steel, copper, aluminum, old appliances, cars, etc. Clean out your garage and your basement and help balance the church budget. Bring your scrap metal to the church parking lot from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you have large items that have to be picked up, contact Tom Rogers or the church office.

Memorial Service

A funeral service for the late Jonathan Rich will take place Saturday, October 5th at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary with a light reception to follow at the family home in Quogue.

Resignations

The session has acted reluctantly to accept the resignations of Kyle Miller (as of August 31) and Jill D’Abramo (as of October 31) as youth ministry coordinators. While their successor(s) are being sought, a volunteer team of parents will help continue the program. Questions? See elder Kathy Tureski of session.

 International Peacemaker

We welcome Rev. Butros Zaour and his wife, Waffa, from Damascus, Syria to Westhampton Presbyterian Church, October 4th through 7th.  Boutros is the pastor of the Evangelical Church of Damascus. They will attend a supper and discussion with the Youth Group on Friday evening, present a talk at a luncheon at the Presbytery Center in Commack on Saturday, and be in our pulpit and present to us at our World Communion Sunday luncheon on the 6th. Let’s make the most of this fabulous opportunity for learning and cultural exchange.

 Bizarre Crafters

The Bizarre Crafters are looking for friends to join their group.  Anyone is welcome, no crafting experience necessary.  We will be meeting each week after church, 11:00 -12:00, on the 2nd floor.  Please bring a glue gun (if available), scissors, and a snack or your lunch, and join us for fellowship and fun.

There are still hymnals available for dedication in the sanctuary. If you need an order form, they may be picked up in the back of the sanctuary, the Parish Hall or the bin on the wall in the church office.
