Church School

Sunday school classes begin today with teacher commissioning, distribution of 3rd grade Bibles, and annual group photo. Parents, please help your children locate his or her class. Teachers are still needed – please see Ellen Campbell or Traci Duke if you are able to serve.

 A Birthday Celebration

The Deacons will be hosting a reception in honor of Creighton Berry’s artwork and his 90th Birthday today following worship. Please join the celebration in the Parish Hall.

Website

The new website is up and running! Visit www.westhamptonpresbyterian.org and remember that you can submit photos of church events electronically to the church office.

Telephone Directories

New church telephone directories are available in the Parish Hall or in the church office. Please notify the office of any changes or corrections.

Hymnals

There are still hymnals available for dedication in the sanctuary. If you need an order form, they may be picked up in the back of the sanctuary, the Parish Hall or the bin on the wall in the church office.

Adult Class

The Sunday morning adult study begins next Sunday, at 8:45 AM in the Founders Room. Newcomers are always welcome.

Treks N Tours

Treks N Tours will venture to the Stony Brook Museums this Thursday the 19th. Meet at the church at 9:00. Bring $9.00 for admission and a picnic lunch. Return early afternoon. Sign up in the Parish Hall.

Bread for the World

Next Sunday our church will take part in the Bread for the World offering of letters campaign on behalf of hungry people in the world. Watch for details and take part.

Resignations

The session has acted reluctantly to accept the resignations of Kyle Miller (as of August 31) and Jill D’Abramo (as of October 31) as youth ministry coordinators. While their successor(s) are being sought, a volunteer team of parents will help continue the program. Questions? See elder Kathy Tureski of session.

International Peacemaker

We welcome Rev. Butros Zaour and his wife, Waffa, from Damascus, Syria to Westhampton Presbyterian Church, October 4th through 7th.  Boutros is the pastor of the Evangelical Church of Damascus. They will attend a supper and discussion with the Youth Group on Friday evening, present a talk at a luncheon at the Presbytery Center in Commack on Saturday, and be in our pulpit and present to us at our World Communion Sunday luncheon on the 6th. Let’s make the most of this fabulous opportunity for learning and cultural exchange.

 Presbytery’s 2013 Visioning Retreat

Saturday, Sept. 28th, 9:30-3:30. All welcome. Register by Sept. 20th by calling Marie Zupka-Ludder at the Presbytery. More information is available in the church office.

Interfaith Prayer Service

The Long Island Council of Churches and the greater interfaith community of Long Island will host an interfaith prayer service for peace next Saturday at 2:30pm at the Majid Darul Quran Mosque in Bayshore. Find out more about this event at LICC.org.

 Habitat House

The Mission Committee is scheduling a work day on the Habitat for Humanity house on Peter’s Lane this month. We would like to have a group of 5-10 people. The work would be inside and on a Saturday morning. If you are interested, please let Dave LeBleu know by phone, 325-1791 or email at dclebleu43@gmail.com.

Fall Rummage Sale

The Presbyterian Women’s Rummage Sale is set for Friday, October 4th from 9 AM to 3 PM and Saturday, October 5th from 9 AM to 1 PM here at the church. Workers are needed to help distribute rummage on September 29th following worship, to set up and price during the week, as well as clean up on Saturday afternoon.

Scrap Metal

The Scrap Metal Drive happens Saturday, October 5th at the west end of the parking lot.

Memorial Service

A funeral service for the late Jonathan Rich will take place Saturday, October 5th at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary with a light reception to follow at the family home in Quogue.

Ushers Needed

Please consult the bulletin board in the parish hall entryway and sign up to be an usher for one or more of the worship services for the remainder of the calendar year.

Church Support Matters

Everyone’s support keeps WPC strong and faithful. Please catch up if, per chance, you have fallen behind during the summer.

Grocery Cards

Grocery cards are for sale during coffee hour in the Parish Hall. Remember 5% of all sales is returned to WPC’s operating budget.

We welcome Rev. Nancy Steeger Jennings to the pulpit this morning. Nancy recently retired from parish ministry after serving the Community Presbyterian Church, Merrick; the Bellmore Presbyterian Church; and several churches on the East End of Long Island.  She was under care and ordained at WPC.  A lifelong resident of Quogue, she and her husband, Rich, are blessed with 3 daughters, Annie, Sally and Tory, and 3 beautiful grandchildren.

Chuck and Millie Cary are away. Please phone the church office 288-2576 in the event of an emergency.

Hymnals

We are pleased to announce that all the hymnals necessary for the chapel have been dedicated! We continue to need many more for the sanctuary. Thank you to all who have contributed thus far.

Church School

We will be having a Children’s Church Service for Grades Pre-K-5 on Reunion Sunday, Sept. 8th.  Sunday School classes begin on September 15th with teacher commissioning, distribution of 3rd grade bibles and annual group photo.

Relay for Life

The session has authorized a free-will offering in memory of church member Tim Eufrasio. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society in his name. Donations may be made in the church office.

Treks N Tours

Ushers and Flowers

Ushers are needed for the worship services throughout the fall. Consult the schedule posted on the bulletin board in the parish hall entry. Vacant flower dates are also available for the fall. Consult the flower chart.

Church Website

Watch for changes in the WPC website including the weekly word from Chuck Cary posted there. A number of new levels and possibilities will broaden the service and network of WPC. You will find us at www.westhamptonpresbyterian.org this fall!

Photos for Website

The new website will have scrolling photos visible when the page is opened. We would love to show our church family in action! If you take any digital pictures of a church event, please forward them to Nancy in the office at admin@westhamptonpresbyterian.org so they may be posted on the site. Thank you!

East End Hospice Seeks Volunteers

Hospice volunteers are caring and friendly, good listeners, can sit quietly, can drive to an appointment or help with shopping. They provide social, emotional and spiritual support to terminally ill patients and their loved ones in the comfort of their own home. If you would like to participate in a training program this October, call Susan at 288-8400 before Sept. 3 to schedule an interview and register for training.
