Adult Study

Adult study continues today after worship with, “What’s So Amazing About Grace?” Through candid DVD interviews, Philip Yancey integrates true life stories told by those who experienced them and Bible study to help us through group discussions to discover why grace is more amazing than we ever considered possible. Yancy serves as editor at large for “Christianity Today” magazine.  Come for one or all the sessions on this topic.  Class will be cancelled in the case of inclement weather.

Travel to India

Mrs. Grace Simonette of the Presbyterian Church in Smithtown will join us Sunday, March 9 to speak with any persons interested in traveling to northern India next fall. She will gather in the library following worship. Please sign up if you would like to explore this possibility with her.

World Day of Prayer

This year’s service will be held on Friday, March 7th at 4 PM at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church. We invite you to celebrate Egyptian culture with worship, dance, music, and food. If you have visited Egypt and have any souvenirs you would be willing to lend for the service, please contact Rev. Jeanne Baum at 286-7454. Committee members are Linni Deihl, Lynne Jones, Nancy Winters and Jeanne Baum.

Grocery cards are for sale during coffee hour in the Parish Hall. Remember 5% of all sales is returned to WPC’s operating budget.

Spring Rummage Sale

There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board for volunteers to help with the Spring Sale, May 2nd and 3rd. Men, women, and older children are needed! It will not go forward unless there are enough people to work – please sign up by March 15th!

Not sure what to get that person on your gift list that is always hard to buy for?  How about a gift card? Not only can you use gift cards as gifts for others, you can use them yourself at your favorite stores while shopping.  It is easy and convenient and supports your church. Gift cards are for sale during coffee hour in the Parish Hall.  A percentage of all sales will be returned to WPC’s operating budget. Orders will be placed on the last Sunday of the month and will be distributed on the following Sunday.  Please see Tom Rogers for details.

We are now pleased to inform you that our Sunday services stream live from the sanctuary and are also available as stored video streams on our YouTube channel. Thanks to Leif Neubauer, who installed the camera in the back of the sanctuary, created a wireless feed to it and a link on our website, we are now able to have the choice of either watching the service live on Sundays or going back to experience it again on YouTube. We will also install a second camera closer to the pulpit to gain a better view and sound. If you want to see the Sunday service live, please go to www.westhamptonpresbyterian.org and click on Live Church Webcam in the upper right corner of the page. The camera is only active on Sundays. Scout Sunday

Today is Scout Sunday in which we honor local scout troops, specifically Boy Scout Troop 62 which meets here at WPC and the local Girl Scout Troop.

Thank you to the congregation and sponsors of our Bowl-a-thon for helping us participate in our mission project for the month “Souper Bowl of Caring”. We collected 131 food items and $829 for the local food pantries. Your generosity to help the hungry was overwhelming. You truly made us champions of our “Souper Bowl”.

He is a 2013 graduate of the Westminster Choir College of Rider University where he received a Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music – Organ. He is also a member of the American Guild of Organists (Sunrise Chapter). He and his family are long-time residents of the north fork. Welcome!

Annual Meeting

Annual reports are available today in the parish hall and church office. The winter annual meeting of the congregation/corporation of the Westhampton Presbyterian Church is hereby called for next Sunday, February 2, 2014 immediately following the morning service in the sanctuary for the purpose of receiving reports of the 2013 activities and acting on any business necessary for the well-being of the congregation.

An informal hearing will be held the Geer Library today at 11:15 for those who seek detailed information.

Souper Bowl Sunday

 Mark your calendar……..Help our church become Souper Bowl Champions! On Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 team up with the Youth Group to help our local food pantries by bringing in one dollar (or more) and a canned good (or more) to worship. A special collection will be received during the children’s message. Please support this effort and help Westhampton Presbyterian become Souper Bowl Champions!

The 2014 per capita is $30.78 per member. This applies to all active members. Envelopes are included in regular sets as well as the pew racks.

Adult Study

Come and join the Adult Class, today following worship in the Founders Room!  We will be choosing a new subject as we enter this time between Christmas and Lent.  Come and share your opinion, as we preview DVD studies on a wide range of topics. Please note the meeting time will be at 11:15am each week until Daylight Saving Time returns.

The winter annual meeting of the congregation/corporation of the Westhampton Presbyterian Church is hereby called for Sunday, February 2, 2014 immediately following the morning service in the sanctuary for the purpose of receiving reports of the 2013 activities and acting on any business necessary for the well-being of the congregation. This year an informal hearing will be held for those who seek detailed information next Sunday, January 26 in the Geer Library at 11:15 AM.

Grocery cards are for sale during coffee hour in the Parish Hall. Remember 5% of all sales is returned to WPC’s operating budget.

 We Are Live!

Many times we discussed that we should be able to have our church service streamed over the typical social media, but most of all make the service available for others, less fortunate, who are unable to come to church. We are now pleased to inform you that our Sunday service streams live from the sanctuary and are also available as stored video streams in our YouTube channel. Thanks to Leif Neubauer, who installed the camera in the back of the sanctuary, created a wireless feed to it and a link on our website, we are now able to have the choice of either watching the service live on Sundays or going back to experience it again on YouTube. Right now we have 6 sessions up-loaded to YouTube and we will upload more in the coming weeks. We will also install a second camera closer to the pulpit to gain a better view and sound. If you want to see the Sunday service live, please go to www.westhamptonpresbyterian.org and click on Live Church Webcam in the upper right corner of the page. The camera is only active on Sundays. We express Christian Sympathy to the families of Harold Rhodes and Herman Douglas Beckwith upon their recent deaths. Services were held for Mr. Rhodes at the Rocky Point Funeral Home on December 16th and at the Quogue VFW and Quogue Cemetery on December 18th for Mr. Beckwith.

Special thanks go to the choir for their ministry of music today. This is director Linda Howard-Kloepfer’s 37th Christmas at WPC!

Thank you also to the LI Brass Guild: Doug Mendocha, John Zalewski, Willard Sprague and Jeff Furman. Our prayers are with Dave Schecher of the LI Brass Guild as he continues his triumph over Leukemia.

Holiday (Fundraiser) Brunch

“Heifer Raise an Ark”

The support we have received from the congregation, family and friends has brought our “Heifer Raise an Ark” campaign to just over $2000.00. We are still trying to reach our goal of $5000.00 and we will be in the parish hall (or nearby) after worship today for those still looking for that last minute gift to someone. Sunday Church School

While formal church school classes are suspended until January 5th, children and youth are encouraged to worship with their families. Childcare is provided in the nursery. The worship service on December 29th will include a child-friendly introduction to various Christmas Carols in the new hymnal.

 Liturgical Dancers

Liturgical dance is the worship of God through movement. Our music today is Massenet’s Meditation from Thaïs. Our beautiful and spirited dancers are: Abby and Julia Ketner, Chloe and Madison Mosher, and Miriam Neubauer. I am dedicating this dance to Andrea and Bob Lohneiss who have given so much of themselves to our church, and whose daughters, Heather and Kristen, were among the first to perform sacred dance in our sanctuary and who I understand will be moving to California. – L.  2014 Stewardship Appeal

Currently, the pledges received for next year total $156,736 toward the goal of $239,000. Thanks go to those who have submitted their cards. Extras are available in the pew racks for those who have yet to commit. Everyone’s support matters. Also, the church has developed the means of automatic transfer. Christmas Party Fundraiser

The Christmas Cocktail Party at Lou and Elizabeth (Shane) Pizzarello’s is on Fri. evening, Dec. 13 from 6-8 PM. Tickets are available in the Parish Hall following worship or in the church office.
