Deacons Meal Ministry

To those who may not know, a meal ministry program is available by the deacon’s committee to anyone in our congregation who may be in need. Each meal also comes with a visit from a friendly face of someone in our congregation.

Lenten Festival

Come and join us for the Lenten Festival! We will be celebrating on Sunday, April 2 immediately following service. We will have eggs to color, cookies to decorate and crafts to make! There will also be pizza!

Bible Study

Join us for discussion which will be centered on the book “Loaves, Fishes, and Leftovers” by Rev. Ted Loder and led by Rev. Jeanne Baum.  Initially we will focus on Lenten topics such as the crucifixion and resurrection, God and suffering, and our understanding of communion.

Book ownership is not required.

Bible Study will run until Palm Sunday, April 9th.

PW Luncheon

Join us for a sandwich and salad luncheon on Wednesday, April 12 at noon. Please bring a sandwich of your choosing, a salad, dessert and beverage will be provided. Final details will be available for the May, “Ladies Who Lunch”, at Pulaski Street Grill in Riverhead. Cost per person and menu will be available. Hope to see you on the 12th!

Rummage Sale Donations

Donations for the Spring Rummage Sale will be accepted beginning Monday, April 17, mornings before noon. There is no longer storage space to accommodate earlier donations.

Interim Pastor, Rev. Dr. John Kloepfer

At the regular Session Meeting of the Westhampton Presbyterian Church on February 14, 2017, Rev. Dr. John W. Kloepfer accepted the call of the Westhampton Presbyterian Church to become its interim pastor effective February 15, 2017.

The Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery of Long Island voted its approval of this selection by the church at its monthly meeting on February 7, 2017.

Rev. Kloepfer agreed to a one year contract to replace Rev. Dr. Charles M. Cary who retired from the church as pastor this past January.

As part of his duties as interim pastor, Rev. Kloepfer will assist in guiding the congregation as it prepares for its search for a new full time pastor in the coming months.

Ash Wednesday Service

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church located at 40 Main Street in Westhampton will hold an Interfaith service at 7PM.

Our WPC Choir will be participating.

World Day of Prayer Service

Beach United Methodist Church will be hosting the World Day of Prayer service at 4:00pm on March 3rd.  They are requesting at least 3 people from each church take part in this service. There will be a 3:00pm run through for those that participate. Contact Sharon Abrams as soon as possible at 631-288-5445.

Putting God in the Center, A Mini-Retreat

Join on Saturday, March 4, 9:30am-12:30pm at the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church to focus on ways to put God in the center of our lives during the sacred season of Lent.

A Message From the Church and Spiritual Life Committee

The Westhampton Beach St. Patrick’s Day parade is being held on Saturday March 11th and we would like to represent Westhampton Presbyterian by entering and decorating the church bus.  If you are interested in being a part of the parade and riding with us, please contact Andrea Chattaway (631-553-6388) or Cindy Schneider (631-834-1535) today.  The bus can hold up to 15 people, but we can also have people marching ahead of the bus if our numbers exceed that.

VBS Training Session

On March 18, 2017 from 8:30am to 12:30 PM Westhampton Methodist Church. This meeting would be to learn about Passports to Peru VBS and get connected with other VBS groups from local churches. There is a fee of $20 per person due at least two weeks prior to the event. $15 per person if more than five people from the same church sign up (at least two weeks prior to the event). If anyone is interested in attending or would like more information about the event, please contact Cindy Schneider at 631–834–1535.

Welcome Rev. Dr. John Kloepfer

John Kloepfer grew up Quaker in New Orleans, but in college joined the Ecumenical Institute in Chicago, where he worked with churches of all denominations, helping them work together in community organization.  After seven years on the national faculty of the Ecumenical Institute, where he taught and served as the director of their programs in Denver and Cincinnati, he entered Colgate Rochester Divinity School and was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1976.  He served as pastor of a church in the Catskills Mountains for eight years before getting his Ph.D. in Spirituality at Duquesne University, where he taught full time for ten years.  He has since served as pastor of churches in Pittsburgh and Upstate New York before serving as Interim Pastor of the Setauket Presbyterian Church and the Community Church of East Williston, both on Long Island.  He married Linda Howard in 2009 and has been very happy ever since.

Welcome Rev. Dr. John Kloepfer

Congregation Meeting

Today, the congregation and corporation of Westhampton Presbyterian Church will meet in the sanctuary immediately following the worship service. Its purpose is to receive 2016 reports and act on other business necessary for the well-being of the church.

Sympathy

The congregation expresses Christian sympathy to Verna Merkel and family upon the death of Kenneth Merkel on Thursday, January 26. The Funeral service was held at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 4th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Officer Training

Welcome Rev. Dr. John Kloepfer

John Kloepfer grew up Quaker in New Orleans, but in college joined the Ecumenical Institute in Chicago, where he worked with churches of all denominations, helping them work together in community organization.  After seven years on the national faculty of the Ecumenical Institute, where he taught and served as the director of their programs in Denver and Cincinnati, he entered Colgate Rochester Divinity School and was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1976.  He served as pastor of a church in the Catskills Mountains for eight years before getting his Ph.D. in Spirituality at Duquesne University, where he taught full time for ten years.  He has since served as pastor of churches in Pittsburgh and Upstate New York before serving as Interim Pastor of the Setauket Presbyterian Church and the Community Church of East Williston, both on Long Island.  He married Linda Howard in 2009 and has been very happy ever since.

The Sacrament of Baptism

We celebrate the Sacrament of infant Baptism for Dante Thomas Aiello, son of David and Jessica Aiello of our congregation. We celebrate the adult Baptism of Dana Alexandra Schultz on behalf of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City where she becomes an active member, with an affiliate membership here at WPC. Dana was married to David Dietche last June in our church.

Christian Sympathy
