Christian Education – Children

Our children are a priority and we involve them in church life as much as possible. Sunday school is available for children ages three and older. After hearing the Children’s Message, they are excused to go their Sunday school classes and join their parents at the coffee hour after the service.

December 2014 – Sunday School News

November’s Thanksgiving quickly gave way to the first Sunday in Advent and, by the time this missive finds its way to our congregation, our Sunday School children will have had the pleasure of participating in our annual Advent Festival on November 30th. What a treat to participate in fun crafts and activities designed to mark the beginning of “the most wonderful time of the year.” Special thanks to all the adults and youth group members whose efforts bring forth this special event each year. December finds our Sunday School students preparing for this year’s Christmas pageant to be held during the December 14th worship service. Each year our children celebrate the story of Jesus’ birth by participating in our nativity pageant. Rehearsals will be held on Sunday, December 7th after worship and on Saturday, December 13th (full dress rehearsal) from 10 a.m. ‘til noon. We are looking forward to seeing our full Church Family in attendance on for this delightful annual event.

September 5, 2014

A Warm Hello to our Sunday School Families!
We are so pleased to bring you news of our Sunday School opening for the 2014-2015 school year. As always, we have high hopes for a faith-rich and rewarding year for our children and youth. Although our first “official” day of class is Sunday, September 14, we are planning to have Children’s Church for 1st through 5th grade classes following the Children’s Message on Reunion Sunday, which is this Sunday, September 7th. We will not be serving communion on this first Children’s Church of the year, but do plan to incorporate music and activities from our summer VBS program, which is sure to please! We will also offer Sunday School for our PreK and Kindergarten students and are looking forward to having your child(ren) join us. We will be updating registration forms next Sunday (9/14) and will have forms available for anyone who did not complete one last year or who may be new to us. We appreciate your being sure to complete a form so that we can ensure that we have the most up-to-date contact information.
As mentioned, grade-level classes begin on September 14th. After presentation of Bibles to our 3rd Grade students and Teacher Commissioning and at the conclusion of the Children’s Message, children should exit to the parking lot where they will meet their teachers and come together for our yearly group photo. This year’s teachers are:
Pre-K & Kg: Mrs. Gini Wagner/Ms. Victoria Campbell
1 & 2: Mrs. Eloise Carter/Mrs. Cindy Schneider
3 & 4: Ms. Madeline Campbell
5 & 6: Mrs. Nancy Miller
7 & 8: Mrs. Kathy Frevert
High School: Mr. John Campbell & Mr. Andrew Schultze
Floater: Mrs. Nikki Schindler
As you can see, we are still in need of teachers. Our program is designed for shared teaching positions, but in most cases that is not the case. Please consider joining us to share a teaching spot. There is truly no teaching experience necessary and you don’t need to commit to every week! As a matter of fact, if you would like to simply join us for one Sunday this year, we are happy to have you! If you are at all interested and able, please let us know and, if you would like, we can arrange for you to sit in on a class and talk with that teacher before signing on.
Classes will be meeting in the same rooms as last year. As a reminder, children in grades 3 and up will be released from class at the close of the service. Please let your children know where you would like them to meet you. Younger children—PreK through Gr. 2 will not be released without a parent and we appreciate your returning to the classrooms promptly at the close of the service to meet your child(ren).
Beginning this Sunday, 9/7, our “Children’s Church” will continue this year. With the exception of this week’s Reunion Sunday, we will be offering our students a child-centered communion experience. On communion Sundays, all students Grades 1-5 will leave the sanctuary and be engaged in a special service of communion and children’s activities during Children’s Church.
Finally, we will continue our custom of collecting an offering from the children each week. We hope to continue our success in meeting our weekly offering goal. Children are encouraged to place their offering envelopes in the basket that is passed during the Children’s Message. Be sure to talk with your children about the weekly offering within the context of reaching out, as a Christian, beyond oneself to give to others.
Thank you so much for making the commitment to bring the gift of Christian education to your children. We are so pleased to be sharing the love of Jesus Christ with them and will continue to do all we can to provide a warm, happy and rewarding experience for them.

Cheerfully in Christ,
Ellen Campbell
Sunday School Superintendent
